HEALab Grand Opening and Speaker Series

The November Speaker Series at the Health Entrepreneurship Accelerator Lab, or HEALab, is coinciding with the grand opening event.

This is a great opportunity to check out the new Arizona State University accelerator focused solely on health and healthcare solutions on the Downtown Phoenix campus.

Paul Johnson, CEO and founder of Redirect Health and past Mayor of the city of Phoenix will be coming to the HEALab to inspire students, staff and faculty about the need for innovation and entrepreneurship in healthcare.

The event is free but space is limited.

Film Series Integrating Refugees: Understanding a Global Question

This event is a mini film series of five films (documentary and features) that engage questions and issues surrounding migration, identity and cultural integration. Through a focus on individual stories and events from Germany, Russia, China, Italy and Latin America, the series will offer a comparative exploration of global sociopolitical questions about refugees with an eye to humanize those questions and see different national approaches to refugees.

"Statistics of Object Shapes: Elastic Metrics and Square-Roots Simplifications" by Anuj Srivastaca

Abstract: There is a great interest in characterizing populations of objects, such as anatomical parts, human faces, cells, proteins, neurons, etc, based on their structural variability. Quantifying structures to enable statistical inferences requires metrics, especially metrics with certain invariances and also computational tractability. I will describe a family of elastic Riemannian metrics, that allow joint registration and comparison of objects.
