ASU Law Week

Join us for Arizona State University Law Week, where you’ll learn and explore the law through discussions reflecting life as we know it today. We’ll investigate how a legal system designed before YouTube still works, and how it decides whether you own what you put on YouTube! So many fields and careers are touched by the law — from health care and business, to sustainability, art and design. Whatever your interests, you will benefit from this camp and have great experience to add to your college applications.

During the week we’ll delve into the law through a host of interesting topics, such as whether it is constitutional for data from your fitness app to be used as evidence against you, and whether that type of data is valid evidence at all. We will explore important areas of the law through interesting cases, including intellectual property law (did Pharrell commit copyright infringement on the hit song "Blurred Lines?"), criminal law (is it a crime to encourage suicide through a text?), and tort law (can the makers of Crock-Pot sue NBC for disparagement because “This Is Us” showed a “slow cooker” causing the fire that killed Jack?).

We’ll introduce you to the legal method to bolster your logic and writing skills and jumpstart your college success. We will finish the week with a fun and engaging mock trial, in which you might play the judge or a witness, or try the role of prosecutor or defense counsel. You will learn from attorneys, judges and law students alike in this interactive week. Law school admissions professionals will share information about law school and what it’s really like, and give you a glimpse into careers in law.

The days will also be filled with valuable college application advice, fun group activities and meals with the whole SummerUP program, and meeting high school students from Arizona and beyond. It’s definitely a week that you won’t forget!

This event is open to rising high school sophomores, juniors and seniors. Students must be at least 15 years old by the start of their camp session.

Students will receive an ASU Law Week Certificate of Completion, suitable for framing, from the Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law.
